A group of seven surveying students from ETSU attended the Surveyors Historical Society Rendezvous in Philadelphia, PA from August 28 through August 31, 2013. In honor of the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the Mason-Dixon line, the Rendezvous theme revolved around the establishment of the line and the circumstances surrounding it. Students had an opportunity to attend over 8 hours of presentations, as well as demonstrations on surveying technologies that existed in that time frame and that were used by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in their work. They also had an opportunity to attend three ceremonies relating to the Mason Dixon line and to assist the Surveyors Historical Society in various activities related to the Rendezvous.
Student costs of attending this conference were minimized as a result of grants from the Western Chapter of the Virginia Association of Surveyors, the Surveyors Historical Society and the Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying and Digital Media, valued at nearly $5000.”
